Professional Statement

I have true passion for the care of children with neurodevelopmental disabilities and am excited by the immense opportunities from being in such a large and supportive academic center. Training and high-quality patient care for children with neurodevelopmental disabilities is family-centered, holistic, and multidisciplinary. As Program Director for the TCH Neurodevelopmental Disabilities training program, I have integrated successful training activities from other programs while also building upon the incredible and unique opportunities offered only at Texas Children's Hospital. My goal is to continue to improve our program to best train our NDD graduates to be leaders in the field!
Following NDD training, I pursued a clinical and research fellowship in traumatic and acquired brain injury. The potential for brain injury recovery is immense! My current position as an inpatient child neurology attending in the intensive care unit and an outpatient neurodevelopmentalist enables me to provide patient care and parent guidance/support from the intensive care/neurocritical care unit to the rehabilitation unit and ongoing outpatient throughout school age years until transitioning to adult providers. With this perspective, I seek to optimize both inpatient and outpatient care, understand how inpatient management affects future child function, seek ways to improve child functioning as well as overall family health following hospital discharge. In order to achieve these goals, I am working to establish and hope to continue to build clinical programs and research projects with many disciplines including Neuropsychology, Psychology, Intensive Care, Therapy and Ancillary Services, Child Abuse Pediatrics, Neuroradiology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Together, I feel we will not only develop a better understanding of traumatic and acquired brain injuries but will improve the lives and function of children and their families.
