Is Scotland vegan friendly? We certainly think so.
Veganism has surged in popularity in the last 5 years following the launch of Veganuary. So much so that as of 2019 roughly 2% of the Scottish population considered themselves to be vegan.
That’s over 100,000 people!
In fact, veganism consistently ranks high in Scottish Google searches year-round and was searched 7 times more often than vegetarianism during Veganuary 2020.
Google Trends data from Scotland shows the surge in searches for veganism (blue line) compared to vegetarianism (red line) from 2015 to the present day, hitting a peak in January 2020.
And the rise in demand has brought with it some brilliant Scottish vegan cafes and vegan restaurants.
From vegan Scottish desserts to international cuisines made vegan, Scotland’s vegan restaurants are some of the UK’s best.
