On the 6th May 2023 we celebrate the Coronation of King Charles and Camilla, Queen Consort.
There’s an extra bank holiday in the UK on Monday 8th May, so we have plenty of time to celebrate!
Communities will be holding Coronation street parties and getting involved in volunteering projects (the Big Help Out initiative) and there’ll be a big concert on Sunday at Windsor Castle.
And did you know pubs, clubs and bars across England and Wales over the King’s Coronation will be allowed to stay open for an extra 2 hours on the Friday and Saturday?
So, have you and your office thought about how you’ll mark this historic occasion?
Here are our suggestions on how to celebrate the Coronation with your team:
- Hold a royal-themed tea party!
- Celebrate with the team at the office during the week leading up to the King’s Coronation.
- This can be enjoyed equally inside or outside, making it an easy choice if the weather’s looking shaky during the week of the Coronation.
- Decorate your office or outside space with bunting and royal accessories (there are plenty of websites selling them).
- Serve afternoon tea food such as:
- Coronation chicken (of course!)
- Delicate triangular sandwiches – egg and cress, smoked salmon, ham
- Scotch eggs
- Sausage rolls
- Victoria Sponge
- Scones with jam and clotted cream
- Pimm’s and lemonade
- Elderflower cordial
Or if you haven’t time to source your own tea treats, order one of our King’s Coronation Afternoon Tea Hampers and British Picnic Hampers. They contain plenty of food for sharing with the team over the Coronation.
- Play and listen to Coronation music!
Did you know that 27 songs have been selected by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport on behalf of the King for the Coronation?
Celebrating British and Commonwealth artists, they will help to inspire street parties and celebrations. Available on Spotify, the list starts with ‘Come together’ by The Beetles and ends with ‘King’ by Years and Years.
See the official Coronation website for more details.
- Play Coronation themed games!
Whether you’re a royalist or not try these games for a bit of light-hearted silliness:
-Pin the Crown on The King (a twist on pin the tail on the donkey).
-A royal quiz (everyone likes a quiz don’t they?).
-Garden Jenga.
-Traditional garden games like croquet and skittles.
- Have a quintessentially British picnic
Did you know that there will be more than 50 big screen sites across the UK to watch the King’s Coronation?
What a great opportunity to picnic and soak up the festive atmosphere!
Or you can picnic somewhere of your choice.
Spread out that blanket, crack open the bottles and indulge in all the picnic favourites.

- Host a Coronation fancy dress party
You know the theme, red, white and blue, Kings and Queens, crowns and tiaras…. use your imagination.
Dress up for the office or meet for team drinks, after all the pubs are open longer - any excuse!
- Take a ‘Royal Tour’ with your office to:
- Tower of London
- Kensington Palace
- St James’ Palace
- Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew
- Royal Armouries Museum
- Caernarfon Castle, N. Wales
- Windsor Great Park
- Royal Mews Buckingham Palace
-
Royal Edinburgh and the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
The Tower of London is a great British landmark to visit over the Coronation
- Take your workmates to one of many organised events
Check out the many National Trust houses holding special events over the weekend of 6th- 8th May.
- Bring picnics and rugs and listen to live music in stunning settings.
- Enjoy outdoor games and more in magnificent grounds.
A fun and memorable way to celebrate with your colleagues.
We hope these ideas have helped. It’s always beneficial to get your team together socially and this is such a momentous occasion as the King’s Coronation, it would be a shame not to mark it in some way…..even if it is just a few drinks in the pub (wearing fancy dress?!).
And before you leave, enjoy these royal facts on the King’s Coronation:
- The Coronation Chair is 700 years old.
- The holy oil which will be used to anoint the King will not contain any ingredients derived from animals.
- The King will be crowned with the extremely heavy solid gold 17th century St Edward’s Crown.
- The Queen Consort will be crowned with Queen Mary’s Crown.
- The King has personally chosen the music for the ceremony.
